What started as a 50th birthday party for founder, Adam Spector, has turned into an on-going fund raising effort for lung cancer research. Since 2012, fund raising has been highlighted by a summer music festival called AdamPalooza. The first AdamPalooza festival raised approximately $2,500. AdamPalooza 2 raised over $10,000. The goal is to continue to increase funding for lung cancer research.
According to the National Cancer Institute, lung cancer deaths in the U.S. (>159,000/year) represent a significant majority of cancer deaths each year. Every year, about 16,000 to 24,000 Americans die of lung cancer, even though they have never smoked. If lung cancer in nonsmokers had its own category, it would rank in the top 10 fatal cancers in the nation.
